"I am the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be"- - Bret 'The Hitman' Hart - -
Born July 2, 1957, in Calgary, Alberta, Bret Hart comes from a big family of wrestlers that are known today throughout the world. Bret, along with his brothers and sisters, were practically born in the rign. In his earlier years, he excelled and dominated the Canadian amateur circuit. When Bret Hart was 21, they gave him the chance to make a name for himself : He joined the World Wrestling Federation. He, then was known as 'The Hitman' and 'The Excellence of Execution'. For 14 years and 200+ matches every year, not to mention all the PR work he did, Bret Hart was finally a Superstar. He had won the affection and admiration of millions of fans. He won many awards, such as: Most Popular Athlete in Europe (1993-94), Most Popular Wrestler in Japan (1994), Most Popular Wrestler in the United States (1993-94) and Superstar Of The Year twice in a row. Here in Canada, Bret was considered as the man who "put Canada on the map". Especially in his home town of Calgary, they named a hockey club after him: The Calgary Hitmen. Indeed, he was a superstar!! Over the years, bret stayed loyal to Vince and the World Wrestling Federation. But Vince didn't see it that way. He started to change Hitman's role in the WWF by making him a racist and a homophobic just to spice up the ratings. Then Survivor Series, November 1997, in my hometown of Montreal, Quebec, Vince stopped the match that was to be won by Hart. against Shawn 'I don't like Canadians' Michaels. In the movie 'Hitman Hart:Wrestling with shadows', you can clearly see Vince telling Bret that indeed, he would win the belt one final time before losing it the next day on Raw. The people who had followed Bret for a year were not expecting to be filming history. If there is anything about wrestling that I recommend, it's that movie. After the Survivor Series, Bret's fist 'accidently' met with Vince's face (HAHA). I don't approve of violence like this, but he deserved it dammit!! A couple of weeks later, Bret joined up with WCW. I don't watch too much of WCW, but I saw when he first came out. Still with his wrist all taped up and almost ready for battle.
Today, Bret writes and draws in 'The Calgary Sun', he is a supported of 'The Special Olympics' (he's the Special Olympics National Honorable Chairman for Toronto's events). And he always takes time to meet his fans to either talk to them, sign autographs or take pictures with him. In my book, he's the nicest guy you'll ever have the chance to meet :)
Listen, I don't approve of Bret's actions in the past few weeks. He is bitter about pretty much everyone in his family, and i know alot of you don't appreciate him now because of it. He is not grieving in the right way, and it's up to us to make him understand that he has to go on, and for the sake of his brother, he should make up with his family. But I still believe that there are 3 sides to every story, Bret's, Vince's and the real truth. So, please, the next time you think of bashing Bret for his actions, try to think about how you would feel if you had been stabbed in the back and lost a great part of your family.
