Dubai International airport (DXB) is 5km (3 miles) southeast of the city (travel time – 10 minutes). Airport facilities, which are currently undergoing a major upgrade, include duty-free shops, bank, post office, shops, car hire, restaurant, snack bar and bar.

The national airlines of the UAE are Emirates (EK) and Gulf Air (GF). Emirates operates international flights to and from Dubai; Gulf Air serves all UAE airports. Emirates is expanding services to the Far East. Most other major European and Asian airlines operate into Dubai. In total more than 70 airlines operate scheduled services to Dubai.

DNATA, the Dubai Airport handling agents offer, Marhaba Service, a welcoming service at the airport. Marhaba Service provides staff to greet visitors, and to assist children, the disabled and the elderly. They help guide people through immigration, baggage collection and also give general information. To use Marhaba Service, a booking has to be made at least 24 hours in advance and passengers are met in the arrival hall, before passport control. The cost varies according to the service required.

Dubai Transport Company has metered taxis that are relatively new and well maintained. These are available at the airport and are reasonably priced.
