YOU AND I

There is a room
You see walls.
I see an opened window.

You are enclosed in square feet and square inches.
My thoughts walk
Where my feet cannot reach.
You hear only what is here.
My ears listen
For human hearts.

You sit in that rotting armchair,
Eat at that bare table,
Wash in that cracked sink,
Sleep in that lumpy bed,
With metal bedposts.

I stand beside my opened window.

The puddle left by yesterday's rain
Is my ocean.
The dandelions rising from the cement cracks
Is my forest.

Step beside me,
Take off your blindfold
And begin shaping
Remnants of your life.
