TEHACHAPI NEWS - Tehachapi recorded three touchdowns and a safety to go up 24-12 at halftime, and never looked back in a 43-19 romp over Burroughs in Ridgecrest last Friday afternoon.

“Overall it was business as usual for us, we just wanted to play our game and we did that,” said head coach Ryan Grimes. “We had good execution, both on offense and defense we were happy with the effort.”

In the second half, Armando Salcido put the game away for the Braves (2-0) with a four yard touchdown run at the 8:26 mark of the third quarter. The Braves went on to add two more rushing touchdowns, one by Adam Mullen, the other by Damien Rodriguez, to help Tehachapi with the big offensive output. Dougan Patience added on the extra point after the Braves scored their sixth and final touchdown.

Mullen led all rushers in the second half with 87 yards on seven attempts, while Kurtis Knudson recorded an interception and a sack and Steven Brass recorded a sack. Eric Harroun, Damien Rodriguez, Justin Hansen, Adam Mullen, and Josh Cannedy all had multiple tackles on defense.

Mullen finished with three touchdowns, while Hansen also recorded a slant pass reception for a touchdown from Knudson in first half action.

“The game was a tough one against the wind,” added Grimes. “We wanted to put the ball in the air as well as on the ground to keep them off balance, but as a running team the weather put us in a good situation.”

The Braves will be on the road this week Friday afternoon against Righetti, with a game start time set for 5 p.m.
