SWE Minutes from 9-5-05

Upcoming Events:
-HMC club fair, 9-9 @ 11:30 am to 1 pm

Harvey Mudd Club Fair
-the HMC club fair will be Friday 9-9 @11:30 to 1 pm
-volunteers to "man" the booth: Becky @ 11:30 to 12:15, Catherine and Sheri @ 12:15 to 1

5-C Club Fair
-the 5C club fair will be next Monday, 9-12 @ 6 to 8 pm
-volunteers: Tracy, Lindsay Wray, Lindsay Muth @ 6-7; Leslie and Jamie @ 7-8

Thai Food Dinner
-SWE's annual Thai food event will be Thursday 9-15 @ 5:30-6:30 pm in front of Sprague
-Invite everyone that you can to attend!

National Labs Night
-National Labs Night will be Monday, 10-3
-SWE has a booth for it @ 6-8 pm
-volunteers: Lily, Lucy, Tia, and Vicky @ 6-7; Jamie and Lindsay Muth @ 7-8

National SWE Conference
-the conference will be in Anaheim, CA November 3-5 (Thurs-Sat)
-signup sheet passed around but let them know if you are interested
-cost $80 for whole conference, abt $50/day
-see about interest before working out reimbursement, but SWE will prob fund a large portion of the cost
-work out details at a later meeting
-good networking opportunity
-don't have to go the entire weekend
-should probably be officially in SWE if you're gonna attend

Industry Exposure
-looking into speakers, tours, etc.
-corporate relations will help, but needs to know our interests in companies and industries
-asked at the meeting: bioengineering, robotics (Lucy knows a woman Mudd alumn in robotics at JPL), JPL tours, Lockheed Martin in San Diego, environmental, civil considered
-let Lily know if you have any other suggestions

Other
-loud in the aeronautical room—next time we'll try portable microphones; if that doesn't work, we'll go to the Green Room at another time (no food)
-mark the date down to volunteer for WEST (Saturday March 4, 2006)
-Miss SWE will be October or November, need to find a date
-hoping to have at least one "fun night" a month, where we watch movies or something and maybe do arts and crafts
-want to get more speakers at meetings
-want to arrange a lot of prof dinners
-Over 40 people came to this week's meeting—possibly the largest turnout ever!
