MAYOR PERKINS, CHARLOTTE GRIFFITH, HENRY HICKS: YOU ALL SHOULD BE ASHAMED TREATING SELMA'S HISTORY LIKE A PILE OF JUNK
6-1-07

Because our Councilperson, Mrs. Martin, is especially interested in HISTORIC PRESERVATION, we are calling on HER to immediately remedy this situation caused by Perkins, Griffith, Hicks, and others.

The picture below is of the columns from the historic Phoenix Building which collapsed on Water Avenue. We were promised that the City would store these columns and reuse them when the Phoenix Building was rebuilt. LOOK HOW THESE HISTORIC COLUMNS ARE STORED! In a pile of junk behind the Public Works building on Division Street; out in the open, behind a pile of trash and dirt.

This is a disgrace! Griffith and Hicks should be fired over this disregard of these historic columns. Mayor Perkins should be removed from office for his callous attitude toward Selma's history. Everyone responsible for this travesty should be severely dealt with NOW.

The City PROMISED that these columns would be stored in a safe place until the City was ready to replace the Façade of the historic Phoenix Building on Water Avenue. Instead, Perkins, Hicks, and Griffith just threw them out behind a trash pile at the Public Works building. DO THESE COLUMNS LOOK LIKE THEY CAN BE USED AGAIN...What a shame and disgrace, Mayor Perkins, that you either caused or let this happen. Correct this travesty AT ONCE!

WE WONDER HOW MUCH MORE OF SELMA'S HISTORY PERKINS, GRIFFITH, AND HICKS ARE LETTING ROT IN A TRASH DUMP SOMEWHERE?!
