SURPLUS OR PAYOFF?

One of The Selma Watchers, who represent this site, was present at the Council Meeting on August 14th, 2006. Never having seen a spectical of this magnitude it was hard to concentrate on the facts. A few questions came to mind that would be appropriate for answer.
1. Why would the Council, after pushing for the "inclusive community" program, purposely try to cast out two council people who represent thousands of people in this city. If you cast dispersions at them you are casting dispersions at those they represent. That's what the mayor said about when someone criticizes him they are doing it to all the city employees. What a cop-out, borderline cowardice.
2. What is the reason for wanting to spend this "supposed" new found cash in such a hurry. Yes, police units are needed. There are 28 in inventory and only 5 to 7 functional for patrol. Why pay cash, the city has always leased? Leasing has distinct advantages, especially on a municipal budget.
3. Is this "supposed" new found money, $1,000,000.00 of it, being used to purchase the land by the old Wal-mart from Larry Striplin? This website has yet to hear the plans for this land once it belongs to this city. This municipality has become deeply involved in the public enterprise business. Purchasing land for purchase sake or because it belongs to the largest campaign contributor of the mayor is not a reason. What is the plan?
4. This website feels the "supposed" surplus was generated by the cutting off of community services, no street repairs, refusal to provide adequate resources for the citizen's protection and very possibly the moving of line item money without council authority. (see auditor's report, link on our homepage)
5. Is an employee of the city, such as Jimmy Nunn, involved in this purchase other than being the attorney for the transaction. This website has information that Mr Nunn has purchased several properties, including 60 acres on HWY 14, across from Imani Way from Spier Land Company. A source stated that Mr Nunn said this land would be annexed into the city. Annexation is alive and well, especially for those who would profit by it. This, if it is true, would bring Mrs Sanders into the city limits. That means she could vote legally.
This website feels this type of leadership is like a glacier, 90% of what's going on is hidden, only 10% is visible to the public.
