Shame on the Selma Times-Journal for joining the mayor's early campaign initiative. They have not and, apparently, don't intend to start, informing the citizens of what is happening around them concerning crime.

In the last 10 days, Captain Dees was burglarized and Dallas Ave Pharmacy was broken into and a large amount of "very expensive" drugs were stolen. These drugs have certainly had time to hit the streets. The STJ could have alerted the public so they could be looking and listening for anything or anyone that could lead law enforcement to an arrest.

By not reporting these and other types of crime to the public could mean several things:

1) The STJ does not concern themselves with the safety of Selma's citizens.

2) The STJ is not informing the public because they don't want to receive "obsessive force" (oops, we mean excessive) from the mayor.

3) In an effort to reflect a pretty picture of Selma they are trying to manipulate the crime statistics, as though enough mis-information isn't given by the mayor and "his" chief of police.

We have spoken with many businesses in and around Selma and they are to the point of decreasing or ceasing to advertise with the STJ. The businesses and citizens are the ones losing out from lack of information.

To show good intentions, they can start by covering these two crimes and the fact that a council person was arrested for reckless driving (over 100 mph) down Broad Street and is attempting to have his citation voided.

The Selma Watchers are aware of your reading this website and we encourage you to continue to read it. Maybe you will find out the truth about what is going on in Selma!
