MAYOR PERKINS HAS NO SHAME -- EXPLOITS DEATH OF SECURITY GUARD

Predictably, Mayor Perkins tried to exploit the tragic death of a security guard to silence those who question his incompetence and that of his Police Chief Jimmy Martin. In the midst of this senseless murder, which has left a grieving widow and young children fatherless, Perkins attacked those who have questioned his socialistic approach to crime, drugs, and guns; which are running this City.
Perkins intimated that somehow those who question him and Martin are responsible for the death of the security guard. DOES THAT MAN HAVE NO SHAME?! Is he completely without class? What kind of person uses a murder to try to excuse what he and Martin have foisted on this community? When Martin and Perkins will not even enforce a noise ordinance, why should young thugs and criminals think they will enforce laws against crime, drugs, and gangs?
When Perkins appointed Sergeant Martin to be the Police Chief, it was very similar to putting Sergeant Klink in command of Stalag 13. Who has "destroyed" the Selma Police Department in the last couple of years so that we have many fewer certified officers today than we had in 2004? Who is responsible for more than 30 employees of the Selma Police Department leaving since Martin became Chief? Who, but Perkins and Martin, would think that 8 men on duty could patrol a 20 square mile area with some 25,000 people in it during any 12 hour period? Their approach to controlling crime has not worked and will not work!
Although we are moving closer to calling for martial law, we are not at that point yet. As a present alternative, we think the Governor should send a contingent of State Troopers here to take command of law enforcement in the City. The problem in the Selma Police Department is in the area of "command", more specifically, Martin and his micro-manager Perkins. It is becoming more and more apparent that Perkins and Martin have no idea what to do about crime in the City and that they have even less vision to rid this City of young thugs and criminals who place no value on human life. The policies, or lack thereof, of Perkins and Martin have only encouraged the young hoodlums to become more brazen in their disregard for the law and for human life.
Only Perkins would use a tragedy to further his personnal agenda. The man is shameless and must be removed from office if this City is to realize its potential!
