WE REPORT, YOU DECIDE
6-23-08

We have previously voiced our OPINION that the Freedom Foundation is a cult and that we wish they would go back to Colorado. We welcome your opinion of Mark Duke and his followers who have descended on our fair city and brought division, disunity, and strife wherever they have been. If you have a reasoned opinion that you would like posted on this web site, please email us and we will post it as printed.

Our OPINION that the Rev. Mr. Duke and his followers are a cult is based primarily on characteristics which are common to most cults. First, the leader can not be questioned. If you listen carefully to what Mark Duke says, he is for God, love, and unity AND ANYONE who disagrees with him is AGAINST God, love, and unity. However, one needs to question which God, what kind of love, and which type of unity Mr. Duke espouses. Is his God the God of the Bible, who made himself known to us in Jesus Christ His Son, who is fully God and fully man? We have yet to hear Mr. Duke answer the questions about his view of Jesus as God. If Jesus is not God in the flesh as the Word plainly teaches (John 1:1-2,14), then He is not Savior and Lord.

It is not only Mr. Duke's theology which we question, it is his attitude that he is doing God's work in saving us from ourselves in Selma and anyone who questions him is not doing God's work. Second, a cult leader can never be wrong. We were appalled that Mr. Duke disrupted the Memorial Day Service with his "Play Day", bullhorn, and speakers, but have been absolutely amazed at how he has tried to justify what he was doing while those who gave their lives in the service of the country, so he could do so, were being honored.

Citizens of Selma, please do not be naïve about what these people are doing in our midst. They are dividing us to conquer us. They are turning friends and neighbors against one another as some follow Mr. Duke and some realize what he is doing. We have been amazed at how often Mr. Duke tells us all of the good things the Freedom Foundation is doing in our community. From listening to him, one would think that the churches and Christians in the community had never done any good works in this community.

As an aside, we are extremely disappointed that Mr. Duke and his followers are working for the re-election of Mayor Perkins. Drive through our Old Town neighborhood and see how many Freedom Foundation members have Perkins signs in their yards. Perhaps Mr. Duke should change the name of his radio talk show to The Re-Election Perkins Hour.

Citizens of Selma, be discerning about Mr. Duke and the Freedom Foundation. Be discerning about what they believe and what the fruits of their works (division) have been since they have been in Selma. We again express our opinion that we wish they would go back to Colorado.
