POLICE CHIEF JIMMY MARTIN MUST BE REPLACED IMMEDIATELY

This website is repeating its often stated call for the immediate resignation of Jimmy Martin! It is NOT because we believe Jimmy Martin is a bad person, but because he is incapable of leading the Selma Police Department and securing the lives and property of the citizens of Selma.
TWO recent events have led us to renew our call for Martin to resign or be fired by Mayor Perkins-who, after all, is responsible for Sergeant Martin being Chief in the first place.
(1) Mayor Perkins was hell bent on spending over $300,000 for the 11 new police cars by September 30. The City even accepted a higher bid for the cars because the higher bidder could deliver the cars by September 30. THE CARS WERE DELIVERED BY SEPTEMBER 30.
DUE TO THE INCOMPETENCE OF MARTIN AND PERKINS THE 11 POLICE CARS ARE STILL PARKED...After six weeks, they still have not been put into service...This is sheer idiocy on the part of Martin and Perkins and heads should roll because of this fiasco. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? Has the City paid for them? Has the City paid the insurance on them? Are they properly equipped? IT IS TIME THAT SOME CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS ASK THESE QUESTIONS OF MARTIN AND PERKINS.
(2) Last week, 2 more Selma Police Officers resigned, 1 turned in his notice , and 1 retired...UNDER MARTIN'S LACK ON LEADERSHIP, more than 30 police personnel have left the department. The City is losing most all of its experienced officers and seasoned leadership...The Police Department is vastly understaffed AND THE PEOPLE OF SELMA ARE LARGELY UNPROTECTED - ALL THANKS TO MARTIN AND PERKINS.
WE CALL UPON MAYOR PERKINS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DEBACLE IN THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND REPLACE MARTIN IMMEDIATELY!! ENOUGH INCOMPETENCE IS ENOUGH, ESPECIALLY WHEN PUBLIC SAFETY IS AT STAKE. OF COURSE, PERKINS HAS INDICATED BY HIS ACTIONS THAT SOCIAL PROGRAMS - NOT PUBLIC SAFETY - IS HIS PRIORITY!!!
