OUR OPINION: MAYOR PERKINS AND JIMMY MARTIN SHOULD GO TO JAIL FOR WHAT THEY DID TO THE SELMA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Following this article is a complete list of all the items and expenditures for the Selma Police Department requested by Chief Riley and approved by the Selma City Council at a cost of $742,077.44, which was NOT budgeted this fiscal year and which puts the City's General Fund Budget into a deficit. Money for the Police Department could have been budgeted had not Mayor Perkins budgeted for HIS USELESS TRUSTBUILD PROGRAM.
Perkins and his former police chief, Jimmy Martin, should be accountable for what they did to the Selma Police Department. From the lack of basic cleaning supplies for the department (Riley requested $3,000) to the lack of training to abolishing the drug unit, abolishing the K-9 unit, to worn out equipment, to obsolete cars and equipment, the SPD as the consultant said, is in a state of crisis - ALL BECAUSE OF THE INCOMPETENCE AND INEPTNESS OF PERKINS AND MARTIN. (As an aside, the lack of cleaning supplies reminds us of the Selma Fire Department's inability to purchase toilet paperfor the 5 stations because of the lack of money in their budget coupled with the idiocy of the bureaucrats at City Hall)
The $742,000 given to the Police Department by the City Council does put the City Budget into a major deficit for the fiscal year which ends on September 30. However, if the Council will not approve the other major deficit spending expenditures the Mayor and his puppets want, there may be enough money in the City's cash reserve fund to keep the City from having to borrow money by year's end.
