Money, Money, Who's Got The
Money?
A source in city government has told this website that the only
way the City of Selma is continuing to operate financially is the jockeying
of funds from one account (line item) to another. The source stated that
grant money is being used to meet financial obligations not authorized by
the grants. A statement in the Management Report from the last audit stated
that grant monies had not been reconciled. Wonder where the money
is?
The Source also stated that the city cannot replace torn or worn uniforms
for the police officers because of continuous overdues at the uniform
company.
Also, the source stated that the Public Safety Building is a city insured
building. It was said that that the City was fighting with FEMA about the
coverage (that is the excuse for the delay). There was no money to do the
repairs.The unappropriated funds are gone.
In June the mayor stated that the city had $9,000,000 in the bank. In July,
at the City Council Meeting, the mayor said the city had $1,000,000 in the
bank. This source stated that it requires approximately $1,500,000 each
month to maintain the city.
Will the City of Selma make it through September 30th without continuing to
use unauthorized money given in the form of grants?
Finding the money trail in this city is like tracking Big Foot. Some people
say it exists but you can't tell where it's going or in which direction it
went, much less where it ended up!
