MUSINGS FROM THE COUNCIL MEETING
1-1-09

Our opinion is that ALL Perkins supporters should be removed as department heads. The people who voted for Mayor Evans did so because they wanted change in personnel and a change in city government. We believe the Council acted wisely in removing LOIS WILLIAMS as City Clerk and the removal of Public Works Director HENRY HICKS by Mayor Evans effective December 31, the TWO BIGGEST PERKINS SUPPORTERS ARE GONE!

Although we were disappointed that the Council reappointed Cynthia Mitchell as City Finance Director, we believe that the audit by the State Examiners of Public Accounts will remedy that situation. It is obvious that those who voted for Ms. Mitchell HAD NEVER READ THE LAST THREE MANAGEMENT LETTERS from the city's auditors. The MANAGEMENT LETTERS which have been posted on this web site present a picture of incompetence, ineptitude and chaos in the Finance Department, which has contributed to the city's current financial crisis.

The pathetic, disgraced and defeated ex-council member Johnnie Leashore was at the council meeting passing out the Southern Poverty Law Center's article which trashed our city. Leashore had attached his own commentary indicating that Evans, Allen, Bowie, Benjamin, and Tucker WERE PUPPETS--of Cecil Williamson, we assume. Leashore is a PATHETIC FIGURE now that he is out of public office. He cannot accept the fact that HIS OWN PEOPLE rejected him at the polls. We suggest that he get a life and forget about calling black leaders names.

If you have not done so, find the December 31 edition of the Selma Times-Journal and READ THE EDITORIAL about Bennie Ruthless Crenshaw and Sam Randolph. We could not have said it better about these two malcontents. We were appalled at Randolph's solicitious remarks to City Clerk Lois Williams about paying for her food, rent, or whatever she needs. WE HOPE SAM'S WIFE was not listening!!!

We commend the City Council-without the aid of Ruthless and Randolph, of course, for (1) voting to decrease their salaries by 12.5% (2) reducing discretionary spending from $15,000 to $10,000 for each council member (3) reducing travel expenses and putting a freeze on all out of state travels-maybe we can keep Ms. Crenshaw at home for a few days in 2009 now.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!
