Dollar General on West Dallas Ave was robbed on Saturday. This is the second time the store has been robbed in the last two months. Of course, YOU WILL NOT READ ABOUT THE ROBBERY IN THE Selma Times-Journal because the STJ has apparently been intimidated by King James and will not print what is really happening in our once lovely city. In the past 2 weeks, Captain D's, Dallas Ave Pharmacy, and Dollar General have all been robbed; but not one word about any of this has been in the STJ? WHY?! We think the community deserves an answer NOW!
Perkins now wants to hire a Public Relations Officer for the City, another $50-60,000 per year position, to tell the public how great he is! WHY HIRE SOMEONE WHEN VICTOR INGE AND THE STJ ACT AS HIS PRESS AGENTS ALREADY, FOR NOTHING?
We also want to urge Citizens in WARD 3 to call and call Jean Martin some more about her voting to give Johnnie Leashore $25,500 a year to serve as Chairman of the Selma Water Works Board! PLEASE call Mrs. Martin and tell her to vote for what she agreed to vote for in a meeting with Allen, Evans, and Williamson in December; $900 a month for Leashore...and that's too much!
Because Leashore can not vote on the matter, each time the Council has tried to set Leashore's salary at $900 a month, the vote has been 4 to 4, with Martin voting with Crenshaw, Venter, and Randolph against the $900 and FOR the $25,500 salary. Allen, Evans, Williamson, and Cain have voted for the lower salary. WARD 3 RESIDENTS: Please call Mrs. Martin and tell her you want her to vote for the lower salary for Leashore. THE MATTER IS ON THE CITY COUNCIL AGENDA FOR NEXT MONDAY. Please call Martin immediately! She is our council person and we will be calling her at 874-9482!! TOP SECRET MEETING: Perkins held a closed door meeting with the certified officers in the Selma Police Department last Thursday at City Hall. One of the items discussed was whether Jimmy Martin should remain as Chief. When Perkins pointed to Martin and asked the officers if they wanted Martin to be removed as Police Chief, Martin's flunkies shouted "no,no,no", but the MAJORITY of the officers present said nothing. If Perkins does not soon replace Martin, the city is going to be sued and sued again for BRUTALITY against black citizens!
When will Perkins get the backbone to remove Martin as Chief? We know it will not be easy for Perkins to do this because Martin was Perkins' bodyguard during Perkins' first term. Martin knows where Perkins went, who he went with, and what he did. In fact, Martin had to sign a confidentiality agreement in which he agreed never to divulge what he knows. So if you wonder why Martin has not been fired before now, now you know why!
And speaking of confidentiality agreements: Perkins and City Attorney Nunn are so paranoid that they have made CERTAIN employees in City Hall sign them (agreements) stating that they would not give information to Williamson and Cain. Our question: did EVERY employee in City Hall have to sign the agreements or just those "suspected" of giving the council members public information?
And can you tell us why Perkins appoints people to the Craig Field Airport Authority who DO NOT live in Selma? Perkins made such a big deal of department heads (except Chief Martin, who lives in Bibb County) having to live in the city limits; yet, HE has appointed two people to represent the City of Selma on the Airport Authority, James Mitchell and Gary Crum, WHO BOTH LIVE IN VALLEY GRANDE! Isn't that a little hypocritical for the Mayor to insist some people live in Selma while appointing people to represent Selma who do not even live in Selma?
