MORE CLOSURES
1-17-08

Two more sales tax producing businesses have closed in our city. A former employee at Video Warehouse informed this website that the economy had slowed down in Selma and the population had decreased to the point that they could not bring in enough revenue to maintain its financial obligations. Also, the theft of rented movies had cost them so much that control of their assets became virtually impossible.

Carquest, a major producer of sales tax has closed. After several burglaries and property damages, not including their inventory losses, they have decided that having a business in Selma is far too expensive. This website feels that as long as Perkins thinks crime is a "cultural issue" and refuses to increase the number of police officers REQUIRED to protect the citizens and businesses, there will be businesses closing and people relocating to areas outside our city.

Sales tax revenues are totally dependent on business dollars that are spent and passed around in Selma. Why are sales tax revenues plunging? Look around! You will see people spending in Prattville, Montgomery, Clanton, and Demopolis. Many will only purchase for their immediate needs and save the majority of their dollars to spend outside our city. Sales tax figures prove this. They are tired of the crime, higher prices, bad attitudes, and unsatisfactory inventory, which is caused by the first 3 reasons.

WAKE UP SELMA. This city must replace Perkins and "his" Council people to stop this ancient approach to leadership. This city is in a state of chaos and division. People are watching the upcoming vote on the Bond Issue and City Elections in August. They are preparing for very hard times and NO representation if Perkins is re-elected.

THIS CAN NOT HAPPEN! The Bond Issue and Perkins must be voted down!!!!
