Concern Over Number Of Lawsuits
9-26-06

Mayor Perkins stated in a council work session that he was concerned about the number of lawsuits that had been levied against the city. He asked the council if the city could suit them back or something?

He was told by the city attorney that the public has every right to bring a lawsuit against the city and that the city couldn't countersuit the citizens because they brought a lawsuit.

Wondering if he understands what causes lawsuits, this website has decided to enlighten him with a few of the reasons.

Mistreating a citizen, mistreating an employee of the city, unequal treatment, bending the rules for certain people, overstepping authority, no communication as directed by law, involving yourself in something that does not involve you, appointing people because of friendship or relationship not qualified for responsibility, financial mismanagement, or not representing all citizens equally.

This is just a short list of reasons lawsuits are filed against this city, namely Mayor Perkins.

During one council meeting the city attorney stated there were 27 lawsuits pending. The city has an insurance company, which increased rates last year because of the number of lawsuits, but the taxpayers are required to pay a $5000 deductible for each lawsuit. It has been said, but not verified, that there have been more lawsuits in the last 6 years than in the last 20 years of the previous administration. This website cannot verify this figure because Mayor Perkins has convinced himself that he is only required to give out the information that he chooses. This website does know that the taxpayer has been forced to burden themselves for over $1,000,000 to fight the nasty, divisive, power seeking, paranoid attitude of this city leadership.

Lawsuits are increasing just like crime, and there will be no peace in this city until a change of leadership is demanded by the voters.
