In our previous article we resolved to rid our community of the cancer known as HATE RADIO 105.3. Though HATE 105.3 is a powerful cancer which is spreading division, hatred, animosity and disunity throughout Selma and Dallas County, we are fortunate that its potential for division has not reached the proportion that its perpetrators envision. Is there anyone in this community who would say that HATE RADIO 105.3 is a force which brings unity, love and progress to Selma and Dallas County?

To follow up on our resolve to rid the community of HATE and those who promote it such as 105.3, we are urging everyone to take two actions this week. First, file a complaint against 105.3 with the Federal Communications Commission in Washington which grants licenses to radio stations. To file a complaint You may (1) go online at www.fcc.gov, follow the directions to find FORM 2000E Media (Complaint) General and fill in the form.

Line 1: asks for the company owning the station. Write in Imani Communications, Inc.
Line 2 ask for the name, frequency and location of the station: WBFZ 105.3 Selma, Alabama
Line 3: Omit
Line 4: Program Name: We suggest the two most hate filled on 105.3 are any program on which Bishop of Funk, Franklin Fortier, and the Little Man Johnnie Leashore participate.
Line 5: Name, date and nature of conduct and activity: The FCC is particularly interested in complaints which center of biased and unfair reporting and threatening and intimidating statements. (We do not think anyone will accuse HATE RADIO of being fair or unbiased).

If you do not wish to file a complaint online, write the FCC at 445 12th Street, Washington, DC 20554 or call them at 1-888-225-5222 and tell them of Hate Radio’s biased, unfair, and threatening statements.

Second, the other action individuals may take is to remind the few advertisers which air on Hate Radio that there are other places in Selma and Dallas County to spend your money. Fortier is begging for money to operate the station and thinks people don’t advertise on 105.3 because of the stands the station takes. HE IS RIGHT. WHO WANTS TO HAVE THEIR PRODUCTS AND SERVICES ASSOCIATED with hate, division, disunity, anarchy, and continued attacks on individuals and city government.

In our last article, we also resolved to do all in our power to keep former Mayor James Perkins, Jr., from being elected Mayor in the August, 2012, election. We believe that the almost out of control CRIME which began when Perkins was Mayor and has continued in recent years AND the demoralized state of the Selma Police Department IS A DIRECT RESULT OF PERKINS’ relationship to and view of what a Police Department is suppose to do. We do not believe we have to attack Mr. Perkins character or name in this election, but that we do have to point out his dismal record as Mayor and how he ran this city into the ground.IS THERE ANYONE WHO WOULD SAY SELMA WAS A SAFER PLACE TO LIVE AFTER 8 years of Perkins than it was when he took office?

AFTER PERKINS HAD BEEN MAYOR FOR SEVEN (7) YEARS, THE City paid almost $50,000.00 to have a PROFESSIONAL, outside Assessment of the Selma Police Department. The Report should have brought about the resignation of Perkins and did help bring about his defeat in the 2008 election. We have never read a report about a city department-which the city paid for-that castigated a Police Department, under Perkins direct supervision, as this report did. We intend to refer to it often in the coming weeks BECAUSE THE SPD STILL HAS NOT RECOVERED FROM WHAT PERKINS DID TO THE DEPARTMENT, AND WHICH WE BELIEVE CAUSED MUCH OF THE INCREASE IN CRIME IN SELMA. This week, we only comment on two statements in the report:

1. “Because of the personnel vacancy factor, while calls for service are constant, CRIME REPORTING IS GOING DOWN because officers ARE NOT taking reports when they should.” While Mayor, Mr. Perkins tried to transform the SPD into a social service agency rather than a law enforcement agency. Because of his emphasis in other areas, he NEVER fully staffed the SPD. “Personnel vacancy factor” was a big part of the problem and one reason crime increased so dramatically while Perkins was in office.

2. “The Selma Police Department is at risk for negligent training. The training practices are poor to non-existent”. Not only was training poor, the quality of some of the people Perkins hired in the SPD was even poorer. As we said, this Report was a devastating indictment of the PERKINS administration of the SPD and should be a reason he should never hold public office again. The SPD still has not recovered from his oversight of the department.

SELMA CITY SCHOOL BOARD: Were it not for the constant whining of Hate Radio 105.3 and a couple of malcontents, Carolyn Robinson and Dee Henderson, the School Board could give its attention to the education of the children of this city! Are these people real protestors? We think not. When there is a little rain or little cold, they are not found on the streets, but in the warmed confines of hate radio criticizing their fellow citizens and agitating for the return of Don Jefferson as Superintendent. One would think that with this matter in the Courts-where it should be-that the defeated and disgraced ex-councilman Leashore, Fortier and their few supporters would let the judicial system work. But no, they would rather try to divide the community and school system.

The “chickens are finally coming home to roost” in the Early College program scandal. A few brave souls like Debra Howard were like voices crying in the wilderness a few years ago when they tried to point out the irregularities and even illegalities in this program. It is certain that WALLACE COLLEGE has received more money for the program than has been accounted or credited to the program. It is just as certain that the program was designed to serve “under served” students, but that in fact, IT WAS MANIPULATED TO SERVE THE CHILDREN OF WELL TO DO PARENTS such as JAMES PERKINS, JR AND COLLINS AND SYNETHIA PERKINS PETTAWAY among others. We hope the truth will finally come to light and that NAMES WILL BE NAMED! We believe that one day the truth about what has gone on, especially financially with millions of dollars being funneled through Wallace College, will be known.

MOVIE THEATRE: If you were unsure if a project would be successful, would you spend ONE MILLION DOLLARS on uncertainty OR would you try a small, pilot project for around $65,000 FIRST? Nothing illustrates better the financial irresponsibility of former Mayor Perkins and the financial responsibility of current Mayor Evans than their views on a movie theatre for Selma. Perkins would have spent $1,000,000.00 of taxpayers money on a 5-6 screen movie complex in a town with less than 20,000 people WITHOUT ANY BASIS for thinking the theatres would have been successful. We have often thought that if a movie complex could be profitable in Selma, that some private enterprise would have built it before now. On the other hand, Mayor Evans has supported the current movie project at the Walton Theatre for a year to see if the people of Selma will support a movie theatre. GOOD FOR YOU MAYOR EVANS FOR BEING FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE. We hope the people of Selma will support this pilot project and that it will evolve into something bigger and better for our city and county.
