TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE?
3-8-07

Sometimes events occur which convince us that God is still on His throne and that there may be hope for Selma after all. SUCH IS THE NEWS OF THE RIFT AND SPLIT BETWEEN SENATOR HANK SANDERS AND MAYOR JAMES PERKINS.

Our sources tell us that the Senator and Perkins have had a major falling out. We believe there are some signs that this is true:

1. During Jubilee celebration at the Elks Club on Water Avenue last Saturday night, Senator Sanders made a point of emphasizing that the City (Perkins) had not done anything to help the Jubilee. Perkins was in the audience, and quietly slipped out of a side door.

2. Repeatedly during the Jubilee celebration, the Sanders openly criticized City Government (again, Perkins) at a number of venues for not helping the Jubilee, which was bringing thousands of dollars and people into the City of Selma.

3. We are told that Senator Sanders has written a letter to the manager of his local radio station telling him TO TAKE PERKINS OFF OF THE AIR. We are trying to get a copy of this letter. When we do, we will put it on this website.

4. We are also told that Senator Sanders has written Perkins a letter telling Perkins that the Senator WILL NOT SUPPORT PERKINS, CRENSHAW, LEASHORE, VENTER, OR RANDOLPH IN THE CITY ELECTION NEXT YEAR. If we can get a copy of this letter, we will put it on this website.

We want to say publicly to Senator Sanders: If you are a man of your word and do not support Perkins and his gang of four next year, we will clean house at City Hall. Maybe then Selma can prosper under new leadership.

Like Senator Sanders, we also wonder why the City, which gives money to every Tom, Dick, and social program which comes to the City Council, WILL NOT give any financial support to the Jubilee or to the Battle of Selma. These are the two biggest events which bring money and people to our City; AND CONSIDERING WHAT ALL THE CITY GOVERNMENT WASTES MONEY ON, WE THINK EVENTS WHICH BRING MONEY INTO SELMA SHOULD BE SUPPORTED BY CITY GOVERNMENT!
