This website received information that bumper stickers that read "SAVE SELMA VOTE PERKINS OUT" are appearing in various places in Selma, especially on automobiles. One of these stickers appeared on the bumper of a fireman's vehicle. When noticed by Chief Allen, he immediately called the Battalion Chief and instructed him to direct the fireman to remove the sticker because he was disrespecting a city employee. Also, the fireman was directed to tell his wife to remove the sticker from her car and that if he didn't, he could be suspended. Since when does a municipality have the authority to take away ones freedom of speech and expression? If this type of behavior is allowed in this city it will get worse. Soon if the Mayor is for ASU then people will not be allowed to display Auburn or Alabama bumper stickers on their personal vehicles. Our advise to this fireman is for him to display the sticker if he chooses and inform those demanding it's removal that a civil suit could arise from their actions and if you are approached about this in a retalitory fashion, a bigger lawsuit will arise.
PEOPLE IN SELMA MUST STAND UP TO THESE POWER-HUNGRY DICTATORS! Put them under legal pressure everyday if necessary. Just don't take it anymore!!
CHIEF ALLEN, YOU ARE A POOR EXCUSE FOR A FIRE CHIEF!!! DON'T THINK YOU ARE SPECIAL BECAUSE PERKINS GAVE YOU $5000 OF THE TAXPAYERS MONEY TO HELP YOU PURCHASE A HOUSE. CAN'T YOU SURVIVE ON THE LAVISH INCOME GIVEN TO YOU BY US? SEEMS YOU HAVE BAD FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT SKILLS JUST LIKE PERKINS. YOU WILL GO DOWN WITH HIM! MAYBE YOU CAN MOVE TO BIRMINGHAM WITH HIM AND WORK FOR ANOTHER OF HIS FUTURE BANKRUPTCIES!
