For Officer Neely
2-11-10

Let's tell the real truth Officer Neely.

FIRST - A "confidential informant" did not tell the Selma Police Department about the stolen Komatsu front end loader. It was one of the employees. He was doing YOUR job.

SECOND - A call was made to the Selma Police Department and Lowdnes County, in which the individual's license number and address were stated. The SPD and Lowdnes County law enforcement stated they had no record of the theft of the loader.

THIRD - The person that sold the loader to the salvage business had a CLEAR AND PROPER TITLE. This business did nothing improper or illegal.

FOURTH - Had you been checking as your job dictates, you would have found it long before an employee called you.

FIFTH - The business has an open door policy to all law enforcement; local and federal. Go by some time.

That business did everything correctly and nothing illegal. The way your television "heros" interview came off was not only improper, it was misleading and very condescending to that local business.

As specialized as Chief Riley tells us the S.P.D. is, we should at least have trust in the information dispersed to the public in statewide news. Just a thought, why don't you and other officers concentrate on protecting business instead of giving them a false "black-eye". There is plenty of business that need S.P.D. protection. Additionally, when you or other officers go to recycling businesses and find things like this, arrest them. Don't let them go because they are your friends.
