Let's cut to the chase! TrustBuild has only ONE purpose: the re-election of Mayor Perkins while giving high priced jobs to his political cronies. TrustBuild is a $300,000.00 campaign organization functioning with city employees, city money, and on city property to ensure the election of Perkins.
WHAT ABOUT THE AWARD TRUSTBUILD RECEIVED FROM THE NATIONAL LEAGUE OF CITIES? Does Perkins think the people of Selma are fools? PERKINS IS ON THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE NATIONAL LEAGUE OF CITIES AND CONVINCED HIS FELLOW BOARD MEMBERS TO GIVE THIS SECOND PLACE AWARD TO SELMA TO HELP HIS RE-ELECTION. The Board of Directors of the League is made up of Mayors like Perkins and Council Members who know how to "scratch each other's back." This entire charade was arranged by Perkins.
Salaries and benefits for the TrustBuild staff total almost $215,000. THAT IS AN AVERAGE OF ALMOST $27,000 PER PERSON while the AVERAGE SALARY IN SELMA IS AROUND $21,000 (according to the Census Bureau). TrustBuild is another reason THE BOND ISSUE SHOULD BE DEFEATED. After spending thousands of dollars for new offices and work stations on the first floor of the 1930's WPA Wilson Building for TrustBuild, now Perkins wants to spend another $480,000 on the Wilson Building to construct palatial offices for TrustBuild on the second floor of the building. All of this expenditure while the Police Building is FALLING AND ROTTING FROM THE MOLD AND WATER.
