TELL ME WHAT LEASHORE SAID

"Well, tell me what'd I say, yeah
Tell me what'd I say, right now
Tell me what'd I say
Tell me what'd I say right now"

Ray Charles What'd I Say 1959

When not driving OVER 100 MPH ON CITY STREETS AND NOT HAVING A DRIVERS LICENSE, City Councilman Johnnie Leashore spends a great deal of time telling people how smart he is!

We have decided to show you this film clip from the last City Council meeting. After you see the clip, please send us an e-mail stating how smart you think Leashore is!

On the clip, it seems that Leashore says a number of buildings are ASPHYXIATED or AFFIX-E-ATED to foundations. We are sure that NO buildings are ASPHYXIATED to foundations, and unless Ebonics has become Selma's official language, we do not know what in the heck "affixeated" means! Could "affixeated" be the past tense of affix? Nope, that's affixed, isn't it?

The situation is that the Council is discussing a Modular Building to be brought into Selma to be temporarily used for a new bank locating on Citizens Parkway. Someone has asked if it would be considered a mobile home since it was being brought in on wheels? At that point,l LEASHORE begins to pontificate and makes his famous statement that numerous buildings have been "ASPHYXIATED" to foundations in the City or does he say "affix e ated" to foundations? YOU decide!

The Clip

Give us your opinion of how smart Leashore is:

1) Give him the benefit of the doubt and say his I.Q. is at LEAST 90.

2) He has coined a new word and deserves around 80!

3) Giving him credit for being able to drive 100 mph on City streets and not kill anyone, I give him a 70-ish!
