Command the Hereos and Armies of Middle-Earth

Middle-Earth is an enormous world with enough details to choke an Oliphant. And while the series of books by legendary author J.R.R. Tolkien were extraordinarily popular in their own right, the trilogy of movies based on the Lord of the Rings novels sparked a surge in interest of the series and a slew of products based around them.

Electronic Arts managed to nab up the rights to the movie license and immediately began creating games to capatilize on the growing popularity of the movies. These games were focused on the heroes found in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and their personal battles allowing players control over these mighty warriors in order to hack and slash their way through the story and overcome the immense evil of Sauron and his army of darkness.

While those games were fun, they lacked something. The battle between good and evil raging across Middle-Earth wasn't only fought by heroes like Aragorn and Gimli but by men trying to save their country and the orcs trying to take it from them in their master's name.

It's hard to capture the epic scale and nature of the battles that raged across Tolkien's high-fantasy landscape, but if you've seen the movies you can begin to understand. Now EALA is bringing the magic and might of the epic battles of the Third Age of Middle-Earth's history. Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-Earth is their attempt at conveying the massive nature of these battles between the forces of Sauron, Saruman and the forces of good.

"The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth offers a unique opportunity to truly experience the vastness of Middle-earth," said Mark Skaggs, Vice President and Executive Producer of the game. "This game will appeal to both fans from the film trilogy and experienced gamers alike. As players immerse themselves in both the epic battles and strategic game play, they control the entire destiny of Middle-earth."

With one RTS to rule them all, gamers have the choice to play from either the good or evil side. Players are given the freedom to command a variety of major armies and heroes from the films, each with their own distinct strengths and weaknesses. Prepare for war by creating offensive and defensive strategies set in the memorable battle locations taken straight from the big screen. The Battle for Middle-earth makes use of the stunning visuals including digital assets straight from the films. It also features exclusive voiceover from the real actors as well as actual movie footage from the three films.
