Recto-verso

Our goal is to decrease the amount of paper wasted on campus and increase the use of post consumer produced paper.

There are several options that are being explored.

  • Obtain double sided photo copiers and printers
  • Ask teachers to allow students to submit homework electronically
  • Ask teachers to allow students to submit homework on double sided paper
  • Ask bookstores and copy centers to use post-consumer recycled materials

U-Pass

Our goal is to institute a Universal bus pass for all students at the University of Ottawa. This year we will try to bring the price down to a level which is affordable and equitable to all students.
The students that will be able to participate in the pilot project of the U-pass are full-time, undergraduate students only.

Background:

The Universal bus pass initiative at the U of O was started in 2001 and has been slowly gaining momentum ever since. Many universities across North America have begun to look at the U-pass as a viable option for sustainable transportation.
Essentially, the U-pass is a program which ensures that all students that participate will receive a bus pass that will last the duration of the academic year at a greatly reduced price. The cost of the pass is included in student ancillary fees.

Successes:

In 2002 the City of Ottawa recognized that the pass was worth investigating. Shortly there after, a Transportation Demand Management (TDM) coordinator was assigned to the U of O.
In 2003 a partnership was developed with Travel Wise, OC Transpo, STO, the City of Ottawa, and the U of O to conduct a transportation survey about the travel habits of the students attending classes at the U of O. With the information obtained from that survey, a price was finally set for the U-pass.
