I was born in the Richmond, Va area on 12/12/83 to George and Marjorie Overacre. I grew up in Powhatan County, Virginia in a house surrounded by about 10 acres of woods. My father is a pipe fitter and a relief valve specialist while my mother is a pre-school teacher. I grew up listening to the music of my parents; bluegrass and classical, as well as the music my brother introduced me to like Blind Melon, Pearl Jam, STP, Nirvana, etc; the standard alternative groups. I started playing guitar around about 6th grade, when I was 12 or so. I remember watching Austin City Limits and seeing a guitarist who's name I can't remember. I then went into the attic to get my father's old Yamaha acoustic, which at that point only had about 2 strings on it. I played it anyway. A few weeks later my father brought home a new set of strings for it and I began lessons with the pastor of the church I went to. I give him the credit for getting me started. I tinkered around for a few years learning the alternative music songs I liked, at one point trying to electrify my acoustic by using a pair of Kool-Aid walky talkies and one of my stereo speakers, which did work by the way. I started taking lessons from a guy by the name of Davis Whitehurst. He was a great teacher and he taught me most of what I know today. We studied jazz and classical styles. I quit lessons at about my junior year in high-school due to schedule conflicts with the indoor drumline group I was in. Yes, I was a bando. I was in our high-school (pseudo)jazz band all 4 years, and I was in the marching band as well. This is where I met another of my great mentors; the guy who is like a brother to me, not to mention being one of my best friends, the man by the name of Neil Landini. The things I've learned from him help me greatly in everyday life as well as my musical life. All of this has led to me being a member in Willow Bottom and hopefully a member of one of the great musical groups known as "Drum Corps", somewhere in America. Who knows? The first recorded piece of music that I wrote: Didj, was written after I had just made my first didjeridu and I wanted to record it. I recorded myself playing guitar with my PC and recorded another file of me playing my didj while listening to the guitar track I had recorded. I then mixed the two until they fit together just right. My music gets more complex from there on out. More info about the music is available on the music page. Currently I am living in the "Fan" area of Richmond and am involved with a group called Willow Bottom, a pop/folk/jammy acoustic duo and my old high school group called Ved Llama, an experimental free jazz/fusion type group.
