Scooby Doo History

Back In 1969 Scooby Doo was conceived from ideas, concepts, and designs of Bill Hanna, Joe Barbera, Fred Silverman, writers Joe Ruby & Ken Spears, and designer Iwao Takamoto.

They came up with a working title "Who's S-S-S-S-Scared?" about teenage mod rockers & their dog.

The group named themselves "Mystery's Five". They travel the country only to find mystery, suspense, and many monsters.

You will find them involved in stories of ghostly graveyards, eerie islands, and haunted houses.

Well of course Hanna & Barbera changed the characters around a bit, and came up with:

Scooby-Doo (Scoobert) : Don Messick

Shaggy (Norville Rogers) : Casey Kasem

Freddy (Jones) : Frank Welker

Daphne (Blake) : Heather North

Velma (Dinkley) : Nicole Jaffe

"Scooby Doo Where Are You?" episodes are basically the same format.

The gang travel in their Mystery Machine. They meet up with a ghost or monster that results in a curse, then get chased around with some really groovy original music in the background.

They find clues that leads to the uncovering of the monster or ghost.

Almost every show the villain always states "I would have gotten away, If it weren't for those kids and that dog!"

Guarantee a satisfied ending in every episode when Scooby replies "Scooby-Dooby-Doo-oo-oo!!"

Trivia: There was a gag, created by the animators at Rhythm & Hues, where Scooby would turn into his cartoon version when he mistakenly drinks a potion. The gag was not in the script and was at one point chosen to replace a less-favored gag in which Scooby would turn into George W. Bush. In the end, Warner Brothers decided that they didn't want the audience to compare 2D Scooby to 3D Scooby, so they chose to have him turn into the Tasmanian Devil instead.
Goofs: Continuity: When Shaggy enters the laboratory he is wearing a white long-sleeved shirt beneath his standard green shirt. When he drinks the formula and turns into a woman and then a body-builder, the white shirt disappears for no reason, but it reappears when he reverts to normal.
