History of Training Department

When TIP was founded in the year 1952 with the support of Siemens Germany. In those days proper-trained staff was not available in the region. Therefore basic mechanical training was given to the new staff in TIP. But the main training was carried out on the job. Later on a Training Department was established as a part of TIP. In the beginning, staff training was required but soon after apprentices training had started. According to the technology of those days mechanical trades were the first trained trades. In co-operation with the German staff, training courses had been prepared in Urdu which are still used in training department. After that, locally trained staff has taken over the Training Department and trained the required staff for TIP. In the year 1966 the Government of Pakistan implemented the rules of apprenticeship which were announced in the year 1962. Not less than 20% out of the available trade worker should be trained per year according to the law. As a result of this law more than double number of apprentices started training in 1965.

Three years later the peek with 216 new appointed trainees or three times more than in 1965 was achieved. After the peek, the figure goes down to 35 trainees per year for the next 13 years. In the year 1984 a new trade Electronic Technician was implemented and the number of trainees went up to 68 per year.

Siemens transferred ten years later again Latest Technology to TIP and the Training Department was forced to update the training again. The new formed trade was Telecommunication Electronics Technician, which were necessary for the new EWSD System. The implementation of both trades was done with the financial help of GTZ (Germany).
