FACE-Tongue

In the ancient temples of Aztecs and Mayans, Shamens and High priests pierced their tongues for ritual purposes. Thousands of years later, it’s still a popular piercing for various reasons, including sexual pleasure, or some just find it attractive.
However, the tongue is an extremely important muscle involved in many essential daily functions and it is very important to have your tongue pierced by a professional.

If you’ve decided to get your tongue pierced, be prepared to wash your mouth out 15 times a day (after eating and between every meal) for the next 4 weeks, and it’s painful to talk for the first few days. Luckily, it’s the fastest healing area of the body, taking up to only 4 weeks to heal.

Tongue piercings are usually placed in the centre of the tongue, to avoid nerve and blood vessel damage. The only jewellery that should ever be worn in the tongue piercing is a barbell (looks like a straight belly button bar with to balls at both ends) which has been correctly sized. The risk of permanent injury is too great to contemplate the use of rings in tongue piercings.

A piercing made through or just behind the natural bend in the tongue is the most comfortable placement for talking and eating. Placed too far back, and it may be uncomfortable and irritate the frenulum (that little loose bit of skin underneath your tongue) or cause scarring, and placed too far forward, and the bottom ball could cause your gums to recede.

Tongue piercing often cause gum lines to erode and chip teeth. To limit the chance of this happening wear smaller barbells.
