The lip and labret (pronounced la-bray) are very popular. Actually, you can pierce just about anywhere around your lips! The labret, situated just below the bottom lip, originates from various tribes who often wore bones, quills and spikes in the piercing. This was to stretch the hole to accommodate a large plate (usually of wood), which was considered to be a sign of beauty.
It’s important that piercings around the mouth have their jewellery inserted properly to improve comfort and reduce possible damage to teeth and gums. Labret and lip piercings often cause receding gum lines and the metal can often chip your teeth. The ‘Madonna’ is usually done above your upper lip to the left or right. Personally I think this looks like huge shiny mole. Madonna and Sarah-Marie from Big Brother have this done.
It will take from 2-3 months to heal.
