Matrix Falling Code Screensaver Competition

Updates

Update:
Date: July 3'rd, 2003
I've updated the font again to make the characters uniform, that is: So they're all exactly the same size. I've also changed a few characters so they are cenetered in the grid, like the colon, Star, etc..

I've also added a link to the Macromedia Director 8.5 version of a matrix effect. The file is here and the link to the web page tutorial is here.

Basically I'm adding another code property that I will include in the proper section later, but I just didn't want to forget about it: The code that falls and then stops half way down: It actually resumes itself. It does happen in the first one, but only the disappearing part way down. About the part way resuming.. I think that it's important that it be a applicable thing where the tracers randomly start in the middle of the screen.
It should be a controllable random thing though, where only 1 or 2 of every 100 tracers start part way down. The rest should start at the top and finish at the bottom. I don't know if it's a special thing they added for the closeup of the computer screen so people would have a hard time emulating it or what...
Anyway, so if you watch carefully, you'll see some tracers fall down down down... STOP. *disappear and let the code that it's already written do it's thing* and then continue where it left off. If the property of the code that was written was told to stay for say, 20 "clicks" or cycles, then it stays and where it stopped, when it resumes it resumes the whole cycle so you'll have code that then fades out to that point,*where the tracer disappeared* and then resume again as well.

I've been thinking about the whole programming thing and I wasn't sure how they'd impliment the font, but I'm pretty sure it included taking some sort of picture of the font and then converting it to bitmap.
Anyway, as for the screensaver itself, it'll lose SOME customiziability due to the fact that it's a bitmap now instead of a font, however if used right, this will REALLY help to make it look more realistic!

Here's the bitmaps of the White and Green glyphs, and the mapping I took them from to get them. *there was a TONNE of work getting these ****'s perfect so if you want to use them, feel free, but make sure you at the very least credit this webpage!* Here's the Link:

I've updated blurred versions of the glyphs for "fading" purposes with the bitmap. You COULD fade them out, but I've updated the previous Glyph link to include both fading IN white characters and fading out green characters.

Nothing REALLY new, but I DID whip up a small example for "being bored" purposes.

This took me a good... 20+ hours. I did everything by hand... Including making sure the damn F*****G glyphs were in right position from frame to frame!
So yeah, PLEASE use it in any way you want. :)

Still nothing fantastic, but I've uploaded a wave file so that if someone wanted they could include that in the screensaver. It's looped properly, and I've also cut, filtered, etc.. to get it sounding decent and remove the lower end hum from the sound of the ship in the movie. Sound clip That's all for now!

Wow.. been busy with a lot of things. Anyway, Teh biggest is the new XTC matrix, but that's not really all THAT new. Anyway, what IS new however is the installer file. I've changed the font again, but this time it's to facilitate the XTC Engine. This one looks a whole lot more accurate to ME anyway with regards to the characters.
It looks best in 1024x768 or higher for resolution effects anyway. Here's the screenie. *It has all the files in it already anyway!*
