| 01 In The Name
Of Father |
In The
Name Of Father is a stylish opening track that captivates the collected
mood and flair of the mafia with Italianate embellishments throughout,
enhancing the scenes depicted by the lyrics. These effects include gunshots,
operatic vocals and Catholic prayer passages. My favourite sound effect
of the song is the whispered "aah" near the end of the intro,
because the reverberation gives a much laid back quality.

| 02 Loser |
Draining
water sounds lead us to a moderately paced rock song - Loser - which as
pointed out by some is similar to the style of bands such as Linkin' Park.
Yet there is a cool bass and electric piano break which leads to a punchy
female vocal section which distinguishes this song. The lyrics are about
the strains against drug abuse. |

| 03 Clear Day |
Clear
Day, the Panasonic phone commercial song is an all-season love ballad
with a beautiful simplistic melody that reminds you of emotions and on-screen
images, be it the commercial or the MV. (Well it does for me anyway!)
I think the lingering of the largely acoustic instruments combined with
Jay's smooth singing style is a match made in heaven - but I don't really
understand the abruptness of the ending.

| 04 Yr 3 Class
2 |
Table
tennis forms the basis of Year 3 Class 2, a song about the strife of underachievement
in the college environment. The style of the song is similar to that as
seen in many of Jay's previous works.. A healthy mix of sound effects,
sequences, and Jay's trademark double-tracked rap, all intertwining by
the last couple of phrases. |

| 05 Dong Fong
Puo |
Dong Fong
Puo is melodious and charming, being a blend of pentatonic Chinese-inclined
melody, poetic lyrics and modern mixing techniques. The song itself was
composed around the lyrics. |
|
| 06 You Heard |
You Heard
is another ballad, and throughout this track, the wet and ambient commotion
of acoustic piano, processed drums and rainfall sounds all work together
to produce a sweet lover's tune I guess. |

07 The Same
|
Boy do
we have a mix of musical styles here - there's Indian passages, indigenous
tribal instrumentation, a string ensemble and Jay with his kick-ass beats.
The reason behind all this excitement is displayed in the lyrics, which
are about two people with contrasting abilities, both on the same level
according to their talents, and both pursuing the top. I particularly
admire the insertion of a flamenco segment in between choruses. Jay often
does this type of instrumental break in his pieces, and I love them because
they're clever and playful at the same time! This track is featured in
the Pepsi CM here. |

08 Her Lashes
|
There are
no rules in love, and fate is in your own hands. Her Lashes portrays this
message. |
|
| 09 Love Overhang |
Vivian
Hsu provided the lyrics for this track. In her very own style of writing,
she tells that cliffs can be a metaphor for love - the deeper the love,
the deeper the fall, and is uncontrollable. This moving song is also very
easy to remember. |

| 10 Paddy |
Paddy is
Jay's first attempt at producing a track using sounds and instrumentation
from tribes in China. Basically the song reminds us about the continuing
destruction of natural surroundings.

| 11 Double Blade |
Double
Blade is the latest of Jay's martial art themed hip hop songs, and its
style is similar to those too, except this time round, the Chinese influence
is witnessed in the percussion, melody line, as well as a little bit of
erhu. I love the DJing and sound effects. One instrumental break features
a string and wind orchestra, which is a very intriguing rest from the
energetic chorus. The song is about fighting against prejudice. |
