Lao Tzu is closely related to the beginning of Taoism. The story goes something like this: Lao Tzu left his job at the age of eighty to head towards Tibet. While he was at the border, between China and Tibet, a guard asked him to write down his philosophies before he went on his way. His writings consisted of less than 5000 characters. After a while Chuang-tzu took the teachings of Lao Tzu further by adding on many things he saw fit. The beginnings of Taoism consisted of only a few philosophers. These philosophers studied Lao Tzu, and later Chuang-tzu, writings. It didn’t become an actual religion until centuries later. The purpose of the Taoist religion is to become one with the Tao. Once you achieve this you achieve the Taoist purpose, immortality.

It is through the “messenger” Zoroaster that Zoroastrianism came about. Zoroaster, while swimming in a river, saw large luminous being. Vokumana, believed to be the first angel, told Zoroaster that the religions that his people have been following were wrong. Vokumana explained to Zoroaster that their was only one God, Ahura Mazda. Vokumana told Zoroaster to become the spokesman for Ahura Mazda. Zoroaster went back to his village and told everyone about what he saw. It is through the Avesta, collections of Gathers of Zoroaster's words, that the religion of Zoroastrianism came to be. The purpose for Zoroastrians is help Ahura Mazda win the battle against the evil Ahriman. Living a good life and telling people about Ahura Mazda is a excellent way to help Ahura Mazda. If they do this, they will be able to join Ahura Mazda after they die. If not, well lets just say they won’t be happy.
