After doing research on horse breeding and horse breeders, I've found that it would fit into my lifestyle and I would love doing it very much. However I learned that it only makes a lot of money if you already have a lot of money to establish a farm and money isn't something that college students have very much of after the graduate! Also there aren't very many big farms in Florida to have a career doing this type of work or to just get a job somewhere, you actually have to have your own business. The kind of horses I want to breed are thoroughbreds and paints because I want one if not more in time to compete in the Kentucky derby. I wouldn't mind moving to Texas or Kentucky to pursue this career but I don't want to anytime soon so I would have to put this career on hold until I'm ready to move away from my friends and family for a very long time. I also plan on having a family and depending on what kind of job my future husband will have I won't be able to live on this career like I plan to. This is also a career that you have to work your way into and not just show up and ask for a job. It takes A LOT of work to work with horses and know how to manage them and be responsible for them. It's getting up early and making sure that they are taken care of, they don't have any symptoms, they are ridden on a regular basis, and much much more. Oh and you have to love the outdoors no matter what kind of weather and that is also something that I wouldn't be looking forward to if I had to move because I've never seen snow so I wouldn't know what to do if I had to live in it. Because this is something that I know I want to do but know that is doesn't make very good money I decided that I would get another degree in the medical field. At first I was going to go into the radiography and sonography program but I changed my mind. I think I'm going to go ahead and apply for the RN program to later become a nurse anesthetist so I can really make the money I want to and have the farm I want to to make extra money. The only downfall to doing this is that I'm going to be in school for what's going to feel like the rest of my life! But I know in the end it will pay off and I will be proud of my accomplishments as well as the life I'll make for my family and myself.
