EVENT
At and Around the Grand Place/Grote Markt in Brussels, Belgium
The proper French pronunciation of the “a”s in “Grand” and “Place” is like “o” in "fond." The sonic difference between the American and French pronunciation brings to my mind the difference between an ostentatious claim made by a circus announcer about a sideshow location, and a more dignified naming of an elegant milieu for subdued conversation and strolling. "US behaviour at the UN is not far removed from that of SD-6 in Alias: since we control the world, we can do very much as we like."
- Ziauddin Sardar and Merryl Wyn Davies, Why Do People Hate America?

"One of the reasons for the superpower's 'unilateralism' is that Europeans in general systematically reject American strategic analyses as false, thereby dissociating theselves from the policies that derive from these analyses."
- Jean-Francoise Revel, Anti-Americanism
