Has Gaming Lost Its Way

To me it seems that now a days, in all the new games one of the first descriptions is uber realistic violence, or realistic handling of weapons. To me this is fun, but it brings me to one question, what about Mario? Mario was a non realistic super fun game, we all know this. Games like that just don’t exist anymore. Even Harvest Moon has strayed from the being fun, to being realistic. So I guess the question is where will it lead?

Since gaming has developed it makes sense that the graphics would, since I'm not going to lie, the original Mario looks really bad. But do they have to make it so that the military games all have enemies that are just as smart as you, or objectives that you are going to get shot in at least once no matter what you do, just to make it seem real. Even the newest Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is almost overly realistic in some aspects. There are missions, where if you walk just a tad to fast or get spotted then you instantly die almost. This is more frustrating than entertaining.

Games are supposed to be fun, but are they now a days. There is an epidemic taking over and it’s not the WWII games, no its realism. Games can be beautiful and such. I don’t mind the graphics, some games they're good for, but what about upcoming games like Okami, you all know that that’s going to be a GOOD game, and not realistic at all. Pikmin was really fun not realistic, God of War same thing. Gaming has lost its way and we must put a stop to these over realistic, super frustrating games, because it will turn the casual gamers away from gaming. It has even started to turn me off and I guess I'd be considered a hardcore gamer. This is really something that we must consider. How much more realistic can these games get before they're just not fun.
