10 Moving Tips
#1. Prior to your move, obtain written appraisals (store them in a safe place such as your safe deposit box). Photos (especially digital) or videos are great!
#2. Make your plans to advise the post office and to get some change of address cards. You can do this at any of your local post office outlets, or at the main post office. If you live in the United States, you can do this at

#3. Remember to notify your insurance agent and transfer or arrange coverage for your new home. You may want to order a special insurance ""moving rider"" for your policy. If so, be sure you understand what it covers.
#4. Send out all items for cleaning or needed repair. If you are making a long-distance move, do not forget to pick them up before you leave for your new home. Otherwise, collect them ""after"" you have moved so you don’t have to pack them twice.
#5. Before you move, do not forget to empty your gas tanks from lawn mowers or gas grills. And, clean all your outdoor equipment. Toss out everything from the garage that you do not really need and/or will not be moving...get a head-start.
#6. Arrange to have all your utilities disconnected at your old house and connected at your new home. Check to see if you can overlap your services, particularly your telephone. Many phone companies offer this free of charge.
#7. Notify financial organizations, medical practitioners, credit card companies, etc. of your move.
#8. Buy un-printed paper from your local newspaper for wrapping and packing or use air popped popcorn. Mark boxes clearly specifying the room for
placement.
#9. Schedule telephone cancellation or transfer for the last possible moment on moving day.
#10. Give away, sell, and discard unnecessary possessions to organizations that always need them like Salvation Army and Goodwill. Ask for a form to record donations so you can deduct it from your taxes.
