At Double H Longhorns, the calves that aren't show-quality are used for beef production. We do not use any steroids or growth hormones in our calves. These animals are all-natural pasture-raised. At approximately two years of age, the calves are taken to a local butcher for processing. The beef is delivered directly from the butcher to the customer.

If you are interested in large quantities of beef, we will gladly process a calf for you on your schedule, assuming we have a calf of the right age when you place our order. For folks interested in smaller quantities, we keep a waiting list of orders and then fill them all at one time when there are enough orders to warrant taking an animal to the butcher.

Through many years of feedback from our customers, we have found that the most popular cut of Texas Longhorn beef is hamburger. The hamburger is extremely lean, which means there is no grease released during cooking. When you brown the meat in a skillet, you can go directly to the next step in your recipe because there is never any grease to drain. Being lean also means that you get all the meat you pay for. When you cook a 1-lb package of Texas Longhorn hamburger, you get 1-lb of hamburger. There is no shrinkage as there is with the fattier hamburger that you purchase from the retailer.

Although the hamburger has proved to be the most popular cut, we will provide any cut the customer wants on custom orders. Our hamburger is $4.60/lb.
