A TRIBUTE TO FREEDOM

Prayers now rise to heaven
For all in life who serve
Battles for their country
As freedom is preserved

Each one of you our heroes
Who sacrifice each day
Life and soul with dignity
Such courage you display

Hearts are always with you
In any place you dwell
Saluting you with honor
With love unparalleled

Each day a special blessing
Upon those we call "our brave"
Our countries greatest freedom
With memories engraved

Thank you for this honor
You give with pride each day
Those of all our "seasons"
Will never fade away

For each of you our promise
Of all our freedom saved
Each battleground now sacred
By footsteps that were paved.

~~FOREVER AN AMERICAN >~~

My eyes look to the heavens, to the stars that shine so bright
I see the stripes of freedom, shining in the light
A flag flies high above the crowd, all eyes are cast upon it
A cloth thats made of red and white with blue stars that adorn it

A symbol that stands for freedom and justice for one and all
A Nation that believes in unity as we all stand brave and tall
Willing to fight for our beliefs, no matter what the cost
We stand for God and Country and the brave men that we've lost

Never to be forgotten, the brave men that we yield
The Special Forces trained to fight in foreign caves and fields
I'm proud to be an American,I'm proud for what we stand
I'm proud to fight for freedom to defend this great land

America the Beautiful

Written by: Katherine Lee Bates

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!

America! America!
God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern impassion'd stress
A thorough fare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness.

America! America!
God mend thine ev'ry flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law.

O beautiful for heroes prov'd
In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved,
And mercy more than life.

America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness,
And ev'ry gain divine.

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears.

America! America!
God shed his grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea.

Battle Hymn of the Republic

Written by: Julia Ward Howe

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword;
His truth is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on.

I have seen Him in the watch fires of a hundred
circling camps
They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps;
I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps;
His day is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His day is marching on.

I have read a fiery Gospel writ in burnished rows of steel;
“As ye deal with My contemners, so with you My grace shall deal”;
Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with His heel,
Since God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Since God is marching on.

He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment seat;
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet;
Our God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on.

In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me:
As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free;
While God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! While God is marching on.

He is coming like the glory of the morning on the wave,
He is wisdom to the mighty, He is honor to the brave;
So the world shall be His footstool, and the soul of wrong His slave,
Our God is marching on.
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Our God is marching on.

God Bless the USA/I'm Proud to be an American

Written by: Lee Greenwood

If tomorrow all the things were gone
I'd worked for all my life,
And I had to start again
with just my children and my wife,
I'd thank my lucky stars
to be living here today,
'Cause the flag still stands for freedom
and they can't take that away.

I'm proud to be an American
where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died
who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you
and defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

From the lakes of Minnesota
to the hills of Tennessee,
Across the plains of Texas
from sea to shining sea.
From Detroit down to Houston
and New York to L.A.,
There's pride in every American heart
and it's time we stand and say:

I'm proud to be an American
where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died
who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you
and defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

God Bless America

Written by: Irving Berlin

While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free,
Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,
As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer.

God Bless America.
Land that I love
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America
My home sweet home.

My Country 'Tis of Thee

Written by: Samuel Francis Smith

My country, 'tis of thee,
Sweet land of Liberty,
Of thee I sing;
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrim's pride!
From ev'ry mountain side,
Let freedom ring!

My native country thee,
Land of the noble free,
Thy name I love.
I love thy rocks and rills,
Thy woods and templed hills;
My heart with rapture thrills,
Like that above.

Let music swell the breeze,
And ring from all the trees,
Sweet freedom's song.
Let mortal tongues awake;
Let all that breathe partake;
Let rocks their silence break,
the sound prolong.

Our fathers' God, to Thee,
Author of Liberty,
To Thee we sing.
Long may our land be bright,
With freedom's holy light;
Protect us by Thy might,
Great God, our King!

Stars and Stripes Forever

Written by: John Phillip Sousa

Hurrah for the flag of the free!
May it wave as our standard forever,
The gem of the land and the sea,
The banner of the right.
Let despots remember the day
When our fathers with mighty endeavor
Proclaimed as they marched to the fray
That by their might and by their right
it waves forever.

Star Spangled Banner

Written by: Francis Scott Key

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last
gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the
perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly
streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still
there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream:
'T is the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash'd out their foul footsteps'
pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand,
Between their lov'd homes and the war's desolation;
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us as a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

This Land Is Your Land

Written by: Woody Guthrie

This land is your land,
This land is my land,
From California
To the New York island,
From the Redwood Forest,
To the Gulf stream waters,
This land was made for you and me.

As I was walking,
That ribbon of highway,
I saw above me
That endless skyway,
I saw below me
That golden valley.
This land was made for you and me.

I've roamed and rambled
And I've followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts
And all around me a voice was sounding
This land was made for you and me

The sun comes shining
As I was strolling
The wheat fields waving
And the dust clouds rolling
The fog was lifting a voice come chanting
This land was made for you and me

As I was walkin'
I saw a sign there
And that sign said no tress passin'
But on the other side
It didn't say nothin!
Now that side was made for you and me!

In the squares of the city
In the shadow of the steeple
Near the relief office
I see my people
And some are grumblin'
And some are wonderin'
If this land's still made for you and me.

Nobody living can ever stop me
As I go walking
That freedom highway
Nobody living can make me turn back
This land was made for you and me

The Flag

Do you know that at military funerals,
the 21 gun salute actually stands for the sum
of the numbers in the year 1776?

I hope you have noticed the honor guard pays
meticulous attention to correctly folding
the American flag 13 times? You probably thought
it was to symbolize the original 13 colonies,
but we learn something new every day!

Be surprised at the following only because
"they" quit teaching this around 1955 in public
schools... some of you out there might remember.

The 1st fold of our flag is a symbol of life.

The 2nd fold is a symbol of our belief in eternal life.

The 3rd fold is made in honor and remembrance of the
veterans departing our ranks who gave a portion of
their lives for the defense of our country
to attain peace throughout the world.

The 4th fold represents our weaker nature,
for as American citizens trusting in God,
it is to Him we turn in times of peace as
well as in time of war for His divine guidance.

The 5th fold is a tribute to our country, for in
the words of Stephen Decaur, "Our Country, in dealing
with other countries, may she always be right;
but it is still our country, right or wrong."

The 6th fold is for where our hearts lie. It is
with our hearts that, "We pledge allegiance to the
flag of the United States of America, and
to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation
under God, indivisible,
with Liberty and Justice for all."

The 7th fold is a tribute to our Armed Forces,
for it is through the Armed Forces that we protect
our country and our flag against all her enemies,
whether they be found within or without the boundaries
of our republic.

The 8th fold is a tribute to the one who entered
into the valley of the shadow of death,
that we might see the light of day.

The 9th fold is a tribute to womanhood, and Mothers.
For it has been through their faith, their love,
loyalty and devotion that the character
of the men and women who have made this country
great has been molded.

The 10th fold is a tribute to the fathers,
for they too, have given their sons and daughters
for the defense of our country since they were
first born.

The 11th fold represents the lower portion of the seal
of King David and King Solomon and glorifies in the
Hebrews' eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

The 12th fold represents an emblem of eternity
and glorifies, in the Christians' eyes,
God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit.

The 13th fold, or when the flag is completely folded,
the stars are uppermost reminding us of our nation's
motto, "In God We Trust."

After the flag is completely folded and tucked in,
it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, ever
reminding us of the soldiers who served
under General George Washington, and the sailors
and marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones,
who were followed by their comrades and
shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States,
preserving for us the rights, privileges
and freedoms we enjoy today.

There are some traditions and ways of doing things
that have deep meaning. In the future, you'll see
flags folded and now you will know why.

USA Troops Letter

3/19/2003
... A letter for you, wherever you are...

Our Dear Loves,

Thank you for your bravery in what you are
doing for us here at home in the USA.

Words cannot express what is in our hearts as you
are away from us. We want you to
know that you are the bravest ones for being there
so far away from all of us and we know that
you are missing us already as we also miss you.

Please don't worry about us. As long as we know that
God is with us always and in your every
move, there is nothing to fear. We pray daily for
you, your safety and good judgement ... in
fact, several times a day you come into our
thoughts for we love you so. It is at
those times that we utter the silent words for your
well being. Never forget that you are
receiving our prayers every second of every day.

Our words implore the Lord to watch over you for us
and to help you in this monumental task. We know
that this is something that you must do to
preserve this God given gift of freedom that we have back here in our America, our home. We may as
well be dead as live with this constant threat
that we are facing, for without freedom, what
good is anything? We love our country and
our freedom and we desire to keep it.

Last, we wish only one thing for our enemies,
and that is Salvation, so they too have
their place in our prayers. What more can we
ask for, than for every human being, no matter
the heritage, to know the Lord?

From the bottom of our hearts today, we thank you!
May we see you at home here very soon.

We love you guys!
We love you gals!
Our minds and hearts are so full of gratitude for all
of you! God bless you!

With admiration,
Your friends and families here at home,
in our United States of America
