About SHF

Located in scenic Rutherfordton, North Carolina, Shingle Hollow Farms, owned by Carol Keever, provides the perfect family atmosphere for even the least experienced riders. The farm has about 35 horses, some owned by Carol and some boarded there by various owners.

Boarding

Boarding provides 24-hour care for your horse. You can choose for your horse to be kept in a stall or in the pasture. Horses in stalls will be fed grain at 8 AM and 4 PM daily. Horses kept in the pasture can graze. You can store your tack in one of the barn's two tack rooms, and will also have access to the riding ring at all times. On rainy days, you can ride in the barn. If you are thinking about boarding your horse here, your horse can be boarded either in the barn or the pasture. The water is checked throughout the day. Call for more boarding information.

Riding Camp

During spring and summer break, children ages seven and up can come to a 5-day riding camp at the farm. They will be assigned a horse, and will learn the basics of Western riding. They will also learn how to catch and saddle a horse, and the basic care of horses. The camps are Mon.-Fri. from 8 AM to 5 PM. (Can adjust time for parents' work schedule.) The kids learn responsibility while having fun and playing games. When the campers arrive in the morning there is usually a demonstration, like how to halter, saddle, bridle, and lunge a horse. Campers are also taught how to groom a horse. From about 11 AM to 12 PM, they ride their assigned horses. At 12:00, they will unsaddle their horses in the barn and lead them back to the pasture. At about 12:30, everyone goes up to the house and has lunch. Campers can bring their lunch or bring money to order it. A movie, usually horse-related, is played during lunch. At 2:00, the campers are allowed to go swimming, jump on the trampoline, or hang out at the barn. At 4:30, everyone gets dried off and eats popsicles in the shade of the big tree in the yard until their parents come to pick them up. On Friday, there is usually a grooming competition.

Notice: There will be more camps this summer, but you need to hurry to get a spot!
