JoJo was a Black Domestic Short Hair. I adopted him when he was 8 weeks old from
Animal Control. The second day he began sneezing and coughing, and he did not want
to eat or drink anything. We went to Wal-Mart and got some pedialyte for babies and
feed him through a dropper. The third day we took him to the vet and found out he
had an upper respitory infection, which is very common in kittens that are adopted
out. He did not even weigh 1 pound...he weighed 3/4 of a pound. I found out that if
you pick up a cat that is infected it can be carried on your clothing and passed on
to the next cat you pick up. The vet gave him a shot and some special food for
kittens. The vet did not think he would survive but a few days, becuase the
infection was so far along. He nose was running a lot and we had to be constantly be
cleaning it. Right after he wasw given the shot you could see changes. Over the next
few days there were dramatic changes. He began roaming the house, playing with
whatever he saw...even fingers (I have the scratches to prove it). After three
weeks, on the day he would turn 11 weeks old, I was putting him to sleep on the
bed...he slept on my pillow...and he went under the bed to play a little before he
came back up as uusal. But this time when my sister picked him up and his breath
smelled soapy, it was really strong. When I put him on the bed I noticed that he was
breathing really fast...but I did not think anything of it. I fell alseep for an
hour or so and woke up like at 3:15 am. When I looked at JoJo I saw that be was
started to, what looked like, pant. But he was having a hard time breathing. I took
him to the living room and when I put him down he was going in circles then he would
lie down. When I woke my mom up to look at him...he sort of collapsed, or laid down.
We decided to take him to the animal hospital. Once I walked out the door he began
jerking...gasping for air. When I got in the car we drove for about 5 minutes...and
he stopped breathing...he died in my arms around 3:45. I don't know what was the cause of his
death...there was nothing under the bed that he could have eaten.
