About the Webmistress

Christina completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and English from Stephen F. Austin State University on May 15, 2004. She also completed a music minor and graduated magna cum laude. She spent two years as a music education major before discovering her true calling in the world of words. :) She currently attends Louisiana State University as a graduate student in the Department of French Studies, where she is also a graduate teaching assistant. She is specializing in French literature. She will graduate in May, 2006. Her thesis title is "The Education of Girls in Nineteenth-Century French Literature: Mother-Daughter Relations and Portrayals of Identity in George Sand and Marceline Desbordes-Valmore." Her research interests include nineteenth-century literature, women's writings, and women's history.

While at SFA, Christina was a member of Alpha Chi academic honor society (2004), Kappa Delta Pi International Education honor society (2004), Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities (2002), and Tau Beta Sigma honorary band service sorority (2001), where she served as service coordinator for a year and a half. She played the clarinet in the marching band for three years (Louisiana Tech University and SFA) and in concert bands for four years (La. Tech and SFA).

Christina is currently a certified teacher in the state of Texas. She is certified in 6-12 French, 6-12 English as a Second Language, and 8-12 English Language Arts and Reading. Following graduation, she plans to return to Texas and teach at the middle school or high school level. She would eventually like to pursue the M.Ed. with emphasis in language arts/language acquisition, and acquire the Master Reading Teacher certification. And she has not ruled out eventually pursuing a Ph.D.! Her professional interests include foreign language learning/acquisition, first and second language learning, language arts and foreign language pedagogy, literacy issues, and teaching culture, as well as teaching language to special populations (i.e. dyslexia, gifted/talented, visually impaired).

A self-professed logophile and philomath, she enjoys learning about languages. She is specifically interested in European languages and French dialects. She is a member of the National Council of Teachers of English, American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, Texas Foreign Language Association, and Association of Texas Professional Educators.

In her free time, Christina enjoys chatting online, as well as seeing what other trouble she can dig up on the internet! :) She also enjoys spending time with her friends and family. She watches way too much television - her favorite shows are "Seventh Heaven," "Sex and the City," and "Seinfeld" - and she likes to read. She mostly reads non-fiction but is trying to get into "great literature" as well. Her favorite authors are Amy Tan and Frances Mayes. She also likes music - her favorite genre is country, but her favorite band is Aerosmith :) ... she enjoys a wide range of music. :)
