The
Great Smoky Mountains form the border between eastern Tennessee
and western North Carolina. As well as sharing these mountains,
these states also share a wealth of legends, folklore, and
handed down tales concerning “other-worldly” beings.
These mountains have witnessed early explorers facing death
at the harsh hand of nature, vicious battles between settlers
and hostile Indians, major clashes during the Civil War, and
misunderstandings between revenuers and moonshiners. Many
of the people involved in these actions died, but their spirits
remain. Every little nook and cranny throughout these mountains
seems to have some type of ghost story to tell. |
