Comments

Sunshine B and

River Bats

Band 10

The Sunshine Band were one of four teams last week to go over 100 points, while the Bats got damn close, scoring 98.  The e-mail I got from Casey last week reminded me that he was turning in the lineup of the "three time" league champions, and I don't doubt that this will continue throughout the season.  If the Band loses in week one and wins in week two, it will be about par for the regular season for a squad that has only a 14-12 regular season record to go with a 6-0 postseason record in the last two years.

Fightin' Roos

Battlin' Wookies

Roos 20

The Roos scored 133 points to pace the entire league last week while the Wookies went down relatively quietly.  The most surprising thing last week for anyone had to be the 31 points that Charlie Garner scored.  One thinks that the Roos won't expect this kind of thing to continue in the future.  Tony Gonzalez returned from his holdout to score 14 points.  Look at the bottom of the newsletter to see a numerical comparison that includes the estimable Mr. Gonzalez.

El Chupacabra

Fighting Bass

El C 10

Cliff had a baby boy this week…I say that like Cliff had anything to do with it.  Christina had a baby boy this week, which unfortunately had to be a product of Cliff's seed as she somehow couldn't get a better offer.  Maybe Cliff will win the league sometime between now and when the boy is old enough to take the squad over from his old man.  Mark's a complete tool while I'm at it, but everyone probably already knew that.

Goodfellas

Corporate Raiders

Raiders 10

The Goodfellas pulled out a very close victory over the Lady Pioneers this week, and are now 9-5 since the beginning of the 2001 season, which is a pretty good record.  The Corporate Raiders scored the third most points in the league last week but still lost in a cruel twist of fate.  This seems to be a continuation of last year, when the Raiders finished sixth in the league in scoring but won only two games.  Judging from week one scores, you wouldn't think this one would be close, so I'm predicting that we'll have two 1-1 teams coming out of this game.

Sweet Chin Music

Lady Pioneers

SCM 5

Both clubs lost last week by a combination of five points (which ain't much if you're an Aggie or Mark).  Sweet Chin Music definitely scored more points last week, led by the performances of Ricky Williams and Brett Favre, who are also the players they protected.  That nice peaceful sound everyone heard last week was the lack of bluster from Kirk Short who has finally admitted for once that he might not have drafted the greatest team in the history of fantasy football.  I wouldn't expect this to last long, perhaps only to Kirk's first win.

Comparison

OK…so we all made fun of Slick for protecting Tony Gonzalez instead of Shaun Alexander.  But what's really the score?  In this spot every week, we'll compare the efforts of misters Gonzalez and Alexander and provide a bit of commentary.

The Hispanic causing panic, El Machisimo, Tony Gonzalez

(In Keith Jackson voice) The lightning quick strong as an ox back from Alabama, Shaun Alexander

Comment:  One week into the game, this is a pretty close matchup.  We'll say that Slick's not a complete dope at this point, but reserve the right to change that if things go differently in the future.
