Comments

Fighting Bass

River Bats

Bats 15

The Fighting Bass started off hot in their first game, but tailed off quite a bit last week.  The Bats scored 98 points in a loss in the first week and then went over 100 in a week two victory.  Expect that Bats to roll over the Bass.

Sunshine Band

Goodfellas

Band 5

The Sunshine Band is digging itself a hole early in the season, starting off 0-2.  I suppose the real consolation to Casey is that an impressive regular season record has never been a requirement; getting into the playoffs is all that's necessary.  This looks like a mismatch on paper with the Goodfellas being one of two unbeatens to date, but I don't think the Band will go 0-3.  Also, the Goodfellas record looks to be something of a statistical anomaly as they're eighth in scoring.

Fightin' Roos

Sweet Chin Music

SCM 15

To this point, Sweet Chin and the Roos are #2 and #3 in scoring respectively.  Sweet Chin has been more consistent going over 100 both weeks, while the Roos have had one very good and one very average game.  Both teams come in with a 1-1 record.  Tony Gonzalez has turned out to be a valuable pick to date.  Still, I'll go with the consistency of Sweet Chin Music in this one.

Battlin' Wookies

Lady Pioneers

LP 10

The Lady Pioneers had the highest point total in the last two years last week with 145 points.  Three players scored more than 20, and three more scored between 10 and 20.  The Ladies were led by Peerless Price, which is somewhat unexpected, who had 30.  The Wookies got Marshall Faulk on track and scored over 100 points for the first time in picking up a win last week.  Still, the Wookies look a little soft at this point (at least until Curtis Martin scores more than 2).  I'll go with LP.

El Chupacabra

Corporate Raiders

El C 10

The Corporate Raiders continue to have bad luck.  Over the last 16 regular season games they have a 2-14 record despite the fact that they were the fifth highest scoring team last year and the sixth highest scoring team this year.  El Chuapcabra is off to another strong start as they try once again to make a run deep into the playoffs.  They're 2-0 and neither of their games have been particularly close.  Judging by points this year, it would make sense to pick the Raiders, but I think Jim will find a way to lose.

Last Week's Record 2-3; Season Record 2-3

Comparison

OK…so we all made fun of Slick for protecting Tony Gonzalez instead of Shaun Alexander.  But what's really the score?  In this spot every week, we'll compare the efforts of misters Gonzalez and Alexander and provide a bit of commentary.

The Hispanic causing panic, El Machisimo, Tony Gonzalez

(In Keith Jackson voice) The lightning quick strong as an ox back from Alabama, Shaun Alexander

Points this week:  9

Points this week:  8

Year to date points: 23

Year to date points:  21

Points per week: 11.5

Points per week:  10.5

Comment:  After two weeks, it's still pretty damn close.  An important note, and one that was made by Slick last week, is that the average tight end exclusive of Gonzalez is scoring 4 to 5 points per game this year, while the average starting running back is much closer to Alexander's average.
