There aren't any lines this week, as it's a bit hard to
pick the first game of the year.
Instead, I'll give you my first impression of how each team drafted in
this spot. However, don't expect me to
be too fair in this game, as I obviously believe that the River Bats selected
a fantastic team that probably won't lose a game this year. Winning this one doesn't mean too much, as
the Bats started off 2-0 last year, but still didn't make the playoffs. |

The Sunshine Band have won more
than 30 games and three league titles over the last three years. At this point, I don’t even try to
understand how or why. I would like to
take this space to remind Slick that Tony Gonzalez is still holding out and
Shaun Alexander is still listed as one of the top five players in fantasy
football. Maybe Stacey knows some
things we don't, and maybe the streak of playoff seasons is over. Despite the apparently unimpressive drafts
by both squads, I wouldn't count either out. |

The Wookies were picked by the
computer as the league's second best team based on their starters. El Chupacabra was
picked as the fourth best team. I'll
take the fact that these teams were picked so high as proof that the computer
doesn't always know what it's talking about.
Both clubs have been successful at times in the past, but neither has
made the championship game yet. |

Corporate Raiders |

The Corporate Raiders were the computer's pick as the
number one overall team in the league, finishing just ahead of the Battlin' Wookies. This is quite a feat when you consider that
the Wookies have Marshall Faulk. I don't know what to think about CR this
year, but I can almost guarantee that their record will be better than last
year. You can't say the same about the
Bass. I think lifting all that
equipment at Lowe's may have made Mark a bit daft. |

On the heels of using the word daft in a write up for the
first time, I think I'll take a vocabulary break. The Lady Pioneers were the computer's pick
to finish butt naked last in the league.
The Goodfellas have the distinction of
making what appears from this end to be the first real reach in the draft
when they drafted Fred Taylor. In
Doc's defense, this probably wasn't the biggest reach as they didn't draft
Kris Brown as the second kicker overall. |
