Scoutmaster John Campbell:  Leadership

The word leader is defined as follows: “One fitted by force of ideas, character, or genius, or by strength of will or administrative ability to arouse, incite, and direct individuals in conduct and achievement.”

Leadership has this definition: “The art of imposing one’s will upon others in such a manner as to command their respect, their confidence, and their wholehearted cooperation.”

What makes leadership? There are three fundamentals, they are:

Character
Knowledge
Power of Decision.

Character. By character is meant integrity, courage, morality, humility, and unswerving determination. Character is a spiritual force.

Knowledge. Knowledge is power. People will seek and follow a leader who knows what to do.

Power of Decision. What good is it to possess the knowledge of what the right course of action is, if nothing is done? It is far better to make a few honest mistakes than to not act at all.

The mechanics of leadership are:

Keep everyone informed
The leader must be seen
The leader must display a capacity to get things done
The leader sets the example
The leader must know those he leads.

There is a human side of leadership, which involves:

Good will
Morale
Reward.

All of you are leaders whether you have a leadership position or not. You lead your peers, your siblings, and your parents and teachers at times.

Choose to lead in a positive manner in a true and right direction.
