UH Graphic Communications Technology Program
An overview of prepress operations to effectively teach students to supervise or estimate printing operations, communicate technically with printing vendors or buyers, and/or design graphic products giving full consideration to the limitations inherent in pre-press operations. Courses also include an in-depth study of common materials used in the graphic reproduction process.
Students completing the course will:
1. understand job engineering as it applies to the production of graphic products;
2. know the history of graphic communications and its
impact on society;
3. know the characteristics and uses of the major graphic reproduction processes and finishing operations;
4. be familiar with the manufacturing processes and characteristics of paper and ink;
5. be familiar with materials used in prepress operations;
6. be familiar with quality control issues and processes in graphic communications production;
7. be familiar with printing industry standards;
8. be aware of legal and ethical ramifications of printing; and
9. be familiar with Houston-area production facilities
engaged in various aspects of graphic communications
production.
