8 Mile - There's a street in Detroit and it's known for being a boundary or border that separates the black neighborhoods from the white neighborhoods, which explains the movie title, 8 Mile. 8 Mile Rd is a dividing line that separates Jimmy Smith Jr. from where and who he wants to be. 8 Mile is all about a young emcee trying to express himself through music, and he faces many obstacles along the way.

It's About? : A white emcee named Jimmy lives on the road of 8 Mile of Detroit. The people of Detroit know 8 Mile as the city limit, a border, a boundary that separates the whites from blacks. It's loosely based on Marshall Mathers I I I's life, but it's not a biography, it's about the character Jimmy, who isn't exactly the real "Marshall Mathers." Jimmy goes through problems involving his white trash mother Stephanie and her boyfriend Greg, his ex-girlfriend Janeane, his friends, and the struggles with the respect he wants to receive as an emcee. Yet, there are things that help Jimmy keep his head up, with his friend Future always by his side, he gets the confidence to go up on stage and "wreck the mic." And then there's his little sister Lily who he always looks after, and his girlfriend Alex who believes in him and won't give let him give up. Jimmy deals with his anger and frustration through his music, which may help him find his voice in the rap game.
