Another hit from square:8How does Square keep on cranking out these games without having a stinker every once a while? Anyway, expect another square caliber title here. However this does not follow the traditional mold of RPG games out there. The battles allow you to move freely like on Zelda. The battles are a free for all fight. You move your selected character around similar to Zelda. This was a new concept that ,apparently, did not catch on. The problem this type of battle engine has is that it is very mundane. The hit detection is pretty bad, often requiring multiple swipes at a enemy in front of you to do any damage. Eventually all of this just turns into random button mashing with very little strategy. The story is not as deep as other squre titles and it could have used some more characters to beef it up and make the storyline more enjoyable. The villages are pretty bland, but then again most games have boring villages. One thing that this game does have going for it is themusic. There are some pretty good tunes in here. And very often they capture the mood of the setting very well. This composition was very well done. Overall I SOM fairly well and if you only have a SNES then you are not going to find a better action rpg on the thing.I suggest you totally play this on emulator , otherwise you will be paying $50 for a subpar game in Square's standards.

Didn't know that pink flamingos could fly.
From the title screen it is obvious that there are only 3 characters in the game. |
